MADISON’S CENTRAL BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT EMERGENCY FUND

Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, Michael Johnson, Madison365 and Paulo Delgado organized a GoFundMe fundraiser to support local businesses after the property damage experienced on May 29, 2020.

The MADISON’S CENTRAL BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT EMERGENCY FUND is designed to provide a one-time financial stipend to downtown business owners unable to immediately recover from property damage due to rioting. Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County in partnership with the Business Improvement District (BID) will manage the distribution of the funds to assist businesses to rebuild downtown Madison. This fund may be distributed in two-phases. Phase 2 that could cover business loses, may be considered if all funds are not distributed in Phase 1.

Through the generosity of hundreds of individuals, phase 1 of the fund will be available to address:
• Materials and insurance costs to businesses that sustained damage due to the events of May 29 and after.

WHO SELECTS THE AWARDEES?
The Selection Committee consist of an interdisciplinary group of representatives from different racial, ethnic, socio-economic groups, professions, and backgrounds. The process has been designed to invite all downtown businesses the opportunity to apply for and be awarded funds. We have been deliberate in taking steps to ensure we address the institutional, implicit and explicit biases that inhibit smaller and minority organizations from participating in these types of grant opportunity.
